Making Sense of Cents: UX Design

The Challenge
Reinvent the Magic in Months
The current finance page, built at the start of responsive design, was outdated and hard to navigate making it cumbersome and confusing for customers. My challenge was to evolve the finance page with the limitations of what functionality was offered by the new platform and the legal implications that are inherent partnering with a financial institution such as Wells Fargo.

Our high level goals were to:
1. Make it fast and easy to apply for financing
2. Give customers a clear understanding of the multiple financing options available
3. Create an experience that gives the customer confidence in their financial decision
My Role
I led the design of the finance page and collaborated with multiple internal and external teams until it’s completion in April 2023. In addition, I worked alongside a handful of designers, animation and photography team, two project managers, finance, legal and credit teams.
Kickoff
Making Sense of Cents
At the outset of the project it was clear that the experience was in need of visual hierarchy and a clear understanding of the financial options. Without a huge amount of pre-existing insights, I partnered with our e-commerce team to explore how customers have interacted with this process in the past.

Insights from the Data
We looked at existing data available including what financing options are most popular with Bob’s customers. We discovered that out of the four credit terms available, 6 and 12 month terms were 2x more likely to be used. These credit options offer no interest if paid in full by the set term. Our goal was to understand the challenges customers faced when deciding which credit option best fits their needs.
To comply with my non-disclosure agreement, I have omitted and obfuscated confidential information in this case study.
All information in this case study is my own and does not necessarily reflect the views of Bob's Discount Furniture.
